ZAKAT GIVING

Your Zakat can do so much

You can help someone find a job, obtain benefits, enroll children in school, learn English, and navigate daily life in America.

Zakat Eligibility

Every year, we receive zakat donations from grateful neighbors who benefited from the help and care of the RIC. To ensure that we were able to receive these donations, we sought guidance from a local Imam.
We are pleased to share that, as an organization that serves Muslims in need and that has Muslim staff, volunteers, and directors, we are zakat eligible.

Annissa’s Story of Belonging and Giving Back

Annissa told us that she especially appreciates the Women’s Empowerment group, led by staff member Hamida, for the friendships she has made. She has received valuable guidance on her rights as an immigrant, how insurance works, and how to interact with the schools her children attend. She even learned about self-care and is starting to ‘give back' by supporting other women who come to her in stressful situations. Annissa told us the story of one woman who came to the empowerment group one night, crying. This woman's landlord did not rent her the apartment she was initially promised, but exchanged it for one less desirable. Annissa was able to share her own apartment woes with the crying woman and Hamida helped contact the rental company to resolve the situation. Annissa is so appreciative of the RIC and her friends in the empowerment group. In her own words,
“Thank you for everything.”

About the Riverview International Center (RIC)

The RIC is a nonprofit organization and resource center for immigrants, migrants, and refugees in Columbus, Ohio. We opened 10 years ago in an apartment on Riverview, in what we soon learned was the home of a large Muslim community.  Over the last decade we have assisted thousands of New Americans to settle and thrive in Columbus. In 2024, we helped newcomers from 52 countries.
